Deadwood South Dakota

We found our way to Deadwood today.

And here it is.

Deadwood on a hill!

And for the big event, Sandi won $400.00!

And we will definitely go back to Goldbergs!

Downtown Deadwood.

Chief Crazy Horse

We were able to collect a chunk of blast rock from the memorial,
for a small fee. Yes we will let anyone see it for $1.00.

They have an incredible laser show at night right on the memorial.

This is the actual scaled working model of what the memorial will

look like when completed.

A wonderful full sized bronze "Fighting Stallions".

And here is the memorial during the day. When completed it will be the largest in the world.

Big Thunder Gold Mine

This is it, Big Thunder Gold Mine. We arrived ready to dig and pan gold and strike it rich just like they do on the Discovery Channel.

Here is Sandi heading into the mine.

Yes, that's gold you see in the pan.

Sandi working her pan.

Rick not giving up looking for the mother lode.

Mt Rushmore

The four Presidents of Mt. Rushmore.

On to Wall Drug

We had to travel through the
Bad Lands to get to
Wall Drug.

Here is our lovely home in the
middle of absolutly no where!

Did we mention the vast selection
of trees in this part of the country?

One of more than 500 signs
indicating the great things to come.

Finally, we are here!

This is it, the great introduction
to Wall Drug in Wall South Dakota.

Yep! This is it.

But we did have a wonderful sunset
that night at the camp ground.

Mitchell Corn Palace

The Corn Palace in Mitchell South Dakota.
The outside is redone each year at a cost
of $130,000 using natually colored corns
and wheats from the area.

This is a photo of the very first Corn Palace
back in the late 1800's.

This is what it looked like the year I was
born, 1956. Each year the theme is
different.

The hallways surrounding the interior are
lined with photos of each year.
The Palace is actually a basketball court

and full stage with seating for 100's.

This is the Palace the years Sandi was born.

Spook Cave - Iowa

Welcome to Spook Cave - The caves closed after Labor Day.
Weekends only. Still a great place to spend the night.

All set up for a nice quite night on the creek behind us.

One of the creek exits from the caves.

Sandi updating our map. The States are starting to fill up.

We had a bunch before this trip.

A view of our Airstream from the creek falls.

We very well might have to come back someday when the caves are open.

I have a feeling I am going to hate corn by the time we get home.

Air Zoo - Kalamazoo

Here we are parked in front of the Air Zoo.

Just to prove it was us, here is our AS with the flags.

A view from the balcony of the older planes in the new building.

A top view of my favorite aircraft in the world!

That's me (da!) in what is left of an old F-8 simulator.

Here is Sandi crashing a H-65 Sikorski simulator.

Indiana Dunes

Mount Baldy is an actual living dune moving up to 4 feet a year.

This photo does no justice to the height of the moving dune.

The shore of Lake Michigan.

The sun moving down the horizon of the dunes.

The campground entrance, oh how exciting for those of you at home!

Dinner at our campsite.

Sunrise in the morning before heading out to Spook Cave.
